Case Study: Elbow Wound
17th December 2021 | Written by the team at Coquet Vets
Keiser is one of SHAK’s golden oldie residents, who presented with a significant lameness in early November. During the consult it was noted that his left fore leg was very swollen and painful. It was suspected that he had developed a condition known as septic arthritis of the elbow joint. During the examination a large wound was found overlying Keiser’s elbow.
Our vets clipped and cleaned the area to allow greater visibility of the area. Due to Keiser’s age (nearly 14 years old!) everyone wanted to avoid a general anaesthetic as much as possible.
Keiser was started on some additional pain relief, antibiotics, and the wound was cleaned and manuka honey applied daily by the SHAK staff. It has been a long 6 weeks but we are pleased to say that his elbow has healed better than anyone could have hoped for!
