Meet the Team!
27th August 2020 | Written by the team at Coquet Vets
We thought this week you might like to know a little more about the team! So we pinned them all down and asked them a few questions……
What is the most exotic/unusual patient you have ever treated or been involved with for its treatment?
Emily: I saw a Monkey once - I initially thought it was a dog called 'Monkey' but quickly realised my mistake as the lady brought in two marmosets in a large cage into my consult room. Luckily, my boss at the time was great with exotic animals so I swiftly turned to him for advice!
Becca: Mine will probably have to be a rhino. I was very lucky to work in South Africa with a local vet for 2 weeks. The rhino required treatment for a condition and had to be sedated using a dart gun from a helicopter! After his procedure he came round very quickly from the sedation… I’ve never ran so quickly back to a vehicle!
Rachel: My favourite exotic animal I’ve seen came to see me with their canine friend who was receiving regular care - some lovely Giant African land snails who were their owner’s pride and joy!
Rosie: I was involved in looking after a deer that had been rescued at 1am on the A19 road. It was given fluids and treated for shock. In the morning it was taken to a sanctuary.
Sue: Probably the most exotic was a Harris Hawk that had flown into overhead power cables - not easy to handle as a Bird of Prey!
What is the best thing about your job?
Emily: My job has so many good bits (among the hard bits). I work with a fab team and really love getting to know my patients (and clients). There is no better feeling than sending a patient home that's been really poorly that is now better!
Becca: I think I’m very lucky as there are many aspects of the job I love, from the team to clients to the cuddles we get from our patients! However on the whole my favourite bit is when a poorly animal, who now feels better is reunited with their family. I love the reaction from both pet and owner!
Rachel: The best bit of my job is being able to help animals and their owners
Rosie: Helping animals, meeting new people, working in a small team, cuddling puppies and kittens (always a good day), getting to know the same patients, especially from a young age, and seeing them grow up
Sue: The best part of my job is getting to see a really poorly pet get better and go home, oh and cuddling animals of course.
You're a new addition to the crayon box- what colour would you be and why?
Emily: Pretty sure it depends on my mood - I could be one that changes colour maybe? My husband would say mainly red ......but my friends purple?
Becca: I think I would have to be a shade of blue… it’s my favourite colour!
Rachel: I’d love to be a forget-me-not blue crayon.
Rosie: Black or White. One of my favourite colours. I am a straight forward person - black or white, no in between. Also the toon (football) colours!
Sue: I would be a rainbow as I'm cheerful and bright and like making people smile.
How would you describe your job to a child?
Emily: I'm like a doctor for animals and I spend a lot of time giving them medicine to make them better.
Becca: I am an animal doctor that helps poorly animals feel better and I also give them medicine to keep them healthy
Rachel: I am a doctor who helps poorly animals feel better.
Rosie: I am a nurse to animals mostly cats and dogs. I help them get better if they are ill.
Sue: I nurse poorly animals and give them lots of cuddles and medicine to make them better again.
You're on a desert island and you can only eat one meal- what would it be?
Emily: Ooo that's a hard one......a proper Cornish pasty from a Cornish butcher. I can't fight my Cornish roots!
Becca: This is actually a really tough question… I’m such a foodie! I probably would have to keep it broad with seafood!
Rachel: Lasagne please!!!
Rosie: Domino’s pizza - Texas BBQ, but swap bacon rashers for pepperoni.
Sue: My favourite meal would have to be Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings.
What would your pet say about you if they could talk?
Emily: Fonzie would say quite a few things, I think. I do think he would thank me for rescuing him, but I think he would mainly say "I'm still hungry”.
Becca: Iona, my Jack Russell, would probably be saying how much she wants to stay snuggled up in bed whilst Jura, my spaniel, would be saying… ‘Walk! Walk! Ball?!’
Rachel: I think Mr T (my cat) would say ‘I’ve known her for ages and we’ve had lots of fun times, but I still have to keep reminding her to feed me’.
Rosie: I think Winston would be saying: ‘Take me for a walk, give me more attention, you like Theresa (my cat) better than me, I’ve had diarrhoea again…, I chewed up my bed and ate your dining room table just to annoy you’.
Sue: Ha ha, my Labrador would say I don't give him enough food. My crazy cocker spaniel would say "I love you so much and thank you for being my rescue mummy” and my Tibetan Terrier would say "Sue? Sue who?”.
