We all love a cuddle with our dogs, but sometimes they can have that not so pleasant ‘dog smell’, or the dreaded ‘wet dog smell’. They also like to get mucky sometimes, or even roll in something smelly! It’s just what dog’s do!

As dog owners, we all get used to it, and accept it. However, there are some fantastic dog friendly shampoos and pet products out there that will ensure your dog smells lovely and clean. They can also help to keep their coats and skin healthy too.

In this article, we look at some of the Vetschoice products for shampoo and healthy coats, with a few tips on how to keep your dog’s coat clean and healthy.

General purpose shampoo for dogs

Dogs do not need to be washed regularly. We would recommend once a month (if needed), unless they have rolled in something smelly, or if they are head to toe covered in mud. The joys of dogs!

When it comes to washing, all dogs should have a good routine shampoo. We love the Vetschoice routine shampoo, ‘S18 Shampoo’, as it is a gentle conditioning shampoo, which also contains aloe vera to act as natural soothing and helps to maintain skin. It also has a delicious smell and is perfect for use on your pet.

Whilst regular shampooing is not required for dogs, a little tip to mention is to wash down your dog’s feet after every walk. This does not have to be with shampoo, even just water, but do make sure to clean off all debris.

If you want to try the S18 shampoo, it comes in our puppy starter pack along with redux, toothpaste and a toothbrush, and a puppy Kong toy for just £20!

Shampoo for dogs with sensitive skin

Some breeds, such as west highland terriers, French bulldogs, and pugs are prone to having skin issues, whether it is inflammation, itching, or something more severe. The Vetschoice M37 Shampoo is designed to aid with management of most skin conditions, so this could be a good option for your dog if they have skin issues.

It is mild and gentle on the skin and has a very pleasant aroma. The pH is also matched to the dog’s skin to ensure it doesn’t aggravate any existing skin conditions.

Conditioning products for a healthy coat

Maxisheen is a conditioning spray by Vetschoice for your pet’s coat, and it is great for general use, it. It contains aloe vera and vitamin E to aid in skin and coat health, and it also has an agent to help limit the population of bacteria or yeast.

Keeping your dog’s coat healthy

Most animals suffer from dandruff or a dull, dry, or greasy coat at some stage in their lives. In some breeds this is more common, but it also happens in older stages of life.

Gomega is an oral liquid that is mixed into your pet’s food. It has been specifically formulated with the needs of your pet’s skin, coat, and nails in mind. It contains Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids that your pet needs to maintain a healthy glossy coat.

With a good routine shampoo, some conditioning, and some healthy additions to your pet’s routine, your dog will be happy, healthy, and smelling good enough to cuddle all day long.
