Case Study: Tino's Suspected Ear Infection
22nd July 2022 | Written by the team at Coquet Vets
A dog called Tino was seen at Coquet Vets in March for a massive swelling to the right side of his face and neck. Due to the size of the swelling, he was unable to open his eye right eye.
Our Vet, Emily thought it could be due to an ear infection. There was discharge from his right ear, but due to the size of the swelling, Emily was unable to use an otoscope to check his ear.
The skin was dry and scabby, so Emily clipped the area to get a better look. The swelling was very large and filled with fluid. Emily lanced the area, and a large amount of watery purulent discharge came out. The skin had been under a lot of tension, and due to this, it was likely to slough.
The area was cleaned in consult, and he was given an antibiotic injection and pain relief to go home with. We have seen him every week since to check that the wound is healing. Each week the wound looked better and better (see images below).
