Case Study: Rosie & Ben - Pet Osteoarthritis

Rosie is an elderly lady (nearly 12 years old!), which is very old for a Bull Mastiff. Rosie came to us in December having been on a lot of medication for her arthritis for a number of years. Rosie had undergone surgery in her knees when she was younger, and unfortunately, osteoarthritis can be one of the long-term effects of this, as well as part of a natural ageing process.

After examination, we found that Rosie was still uncomfortable on her back legs. We decided we would try her on Librela® to see if this would help to ease her discomfort. Two weeks later, Rosie was markedly improved and starting up with some of her old cheeky ways again.

Not wanting to miss out, Rosie’s younger brother, Ben (who is still a fair age for his breed), presented a few months ago with being very subdued. The only finding upon examination was stiff and uncomfortable knees. Ben had also undergone surgery on his knees when he was younger, so before we elected for long-term tablets, we decided to also trial Librela® for him. A week later, he was back to his old self and hasn’t looked back.

Librela® is a new targeted osteoarthritis treatment in dogs. It is a monoclonal antibody that targets a specific protein associated with arthritic pain. Not only that, but it has a broad safety profile.

In the main picture, you can see Rosie and Ben at their last appointment - what a great double act these two are!
